Pseudo Nixie tube clock

I recently bought the Waveshare Pseudo Nixie tube clock from thepihut.com

My initial idea was to use it with a raspberry pi pico. However, this wasn’t really possible at the time of writing, due to lack of documentation. Instead I’ve done the documented raspberry pi zero version.

I might take up the raspberry pi pico challenge at a later time.

Hardware needed

  • Pseudo Nixie tube clock
  • Raspberry pi Zero
  • usb-c style 5v, 2amp power supply for powering the clock and Rpi-zero.
  • usb type A to micro usb cable for connecting to computer.
  • Micro SD card for raspios

I also used a small monitor for initial debugging (booting raspios).

Trial & error

I started by downloading the latest raspios 64bit lite image. Then I added the micro SD card and formatted it as fat. After formatting, the os image was written.
